 ACUTE BRONCHITIS

Acute inflammation of the bronchial tree due to  bacteria , virus or other irritants is known as acute bronchitis. Bronchial tree consists of small air tubes or air passages through which air enters into the lungs. Due to infection they swell and hence it is difficult for the air to enter inside the lungs.

 CAUSES

• Infection - Bacterial or viral infection may cause acute bronchitis. Infection from tonsils   or sinuses may lead to acute bronchitis.

• Cigarette smoking.

• Diseases such as measles and whooping cough.

• Allergic bronchitis due to inhalation of pollens or   dust.

 SYMPTOMS

• Cough with scanty expectoration which later becomes mucopurulent and copious.

•  Fever, malaise and sweating.

•  Choked up feeling, difficulty in breathing with spells of cough relieved by expectoration.

 MANAGEMENT

•  Rest in bed.

•  Stop smoking cigarettes.

•  Steam inhalation.

•  Vegetable soups, fruit juices will make the patient feel energetic.
