ALOPECIA can be divided into
1) Patchy alopecia (MALE PATTERN BALDNESS)
2) Diffuse alopecia. (FEMALE PATTERN BALDNESS)
PATCHY ALOPECIA
ALOPECIA AREATA
There is sudden onset of circumscribed, totally bald,smooth patch with
hair at the borders affecting the scalp.
Hair falls in small,round patches.The patches may spread involving the
larger areas of the scalp.
DIFFUSE ALOPECIA (FEMALE PATTERN BALDNESS)
IN FEMALE PATTERN BALDNESS there is thining of hair all over the
head,but the frontal hairline is maintained.It is caused by
aging,hormonal changes during
menopause and also due to genetic predisposition.
