HYPERPIGMENTATION

It is a skin disorder commonly seen in females associated with various disorders like 

anaemia etc. During pregnancy a blotchy hyperpigmentation of face affects the cheek,

forehead and chin. In some women it can be idiopathic.

It can be associated with disorders such as ENDOCRINE DISORDERS: Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease etc.

ANAEMIA: It is seen in the form of dark circles around the eyes.

DRUGS: Drugs like Psoralens, Minocycline, Chlorpromazine and other related phenothiazines may cause hyperpigmentation, slate grey or purple discolouration of skin.

HEREDITARY FACTORS: There is a strong family history of hyperpigmentation observed in patients with hyperpigmentation.

SOLAR DERMATITIS: It is also a cause of hyperpigmentation due to sunrays.

HYPOMELANOSIS

VITILIGO (LEUCODERMA): Vitiligo is a pigmentary disorder caused due to loss of pigment melanin 

(pigment which gives colour to hair, skin etc) characterized by pale patches of skin milky white in colour.

CAUSE: Auto immune (Imbalance in the immune system) - It is associated with other autoimmune diseases 

such as thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus etc.

Genetic - Patients with vitiligo have family history of the same.

Sites subjected to friction and trauma is often affected and damage to the skin produces depigmentation.

CLINICAL FEATURES: Lesions are circumscribed, milky white in colour. Areas commonly affected are 

face (especially around the eyes and mouth) hands and feet, axillae, groins and genitalia.

HOMEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT: As it is an auto immune disorder constitutional medicine will surely 

correct the imbalance in the immune system, constitutional medicine given during pregnancy minimizes the 

chance of the child having vitiligo. Constitutional medicine is nothing but the individual approach, medicine 

prescribed after taking into consideration the mental and physical symptoms, considering the person as 

a whole, and not only treating the parts of the body.
